I have a large file I completed using excel 2007 but saved as 2003 file so another coworker can open. When she is opening the 2003 none of the new format changes are coming over or she is getting a too many cell format error.

What can I do to fix this? I saw a couple of posts with this same issue but no answers are posted. Does anybody have a simple solution?

thanks

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
When you created the file, did you account for the differences between the versions of Excel? Excel 2007 has many more rows/formats/color options, etc than were available in previous versions.

Assuming you saved the file as .xls, did you run the compatibility checker when saving? It will give a list of things that may not appear correctly in other versions of Excel.

Yes, I used the compatibility checker and it stated there were no problems with earlier versions. It keeps converting the formatted data back to the original data everytime I try to save as excel 2003.

What kind of formatting (in 2007) is being converted to what kind of formatting (in 2003)?

Hmm, I really wouldn't expect problems with these per se - they are fairly standard formats. Puzzling.

When you say a large file, how large? MS support clarifies too many formats as being more than 4000 unique formats. It's hard to imagine a workbook with that many formats anyway!

It's probably a matter of trial and error - I've seen several posts on formatting problems with 2003 files using spreadsheets created in 2007, but little in the way of answers (usually, its the colors that are the issue, though).
