Is it possible to display the text "Meters" in a different color? --> e.g. 112 Meters

When I go to add content to blank cells in existing workbooks the numeric content automatically defaults to a time format. This does not appear to be the case for new workbooks. Is there any way of clearing blank cells of this problem so that this does not recur and by default the General format...
