VLOOKUP Column index counter not visible

Excel 2010 Hi. When I do a vlookup my computer does not show the column index counter. I have tried multiple spreadsheets and still nothing. I have rebooted the computer to no avail. I have opened the initial spreadsheet on another computer w/ Excel 2010 and the index counter is visible. Any ideas?
