Want to write a data cleansing macro

I have many spreadsheets with a bunch of headings and various data. They average 5 cols x 400+ rows. I would like to know of a way to check all cells, apply various logic (perhaps using IF or SEARCH criteria) and based on the result, delete a cell, delete entire row or leave as is. I am a bit of a newbie to this side of excel so any help is welcome. Thanks.

We have had a bit of a chat at work and decided to do it via other programming means. Thanks anyway for the response.
