Searching through excel documents

Is there a way to search through mutilpe excel documents for relevent fields?

Yes, but you need VBA to do it (unless you're talking about all sheets in one workbook, in which case Excel XP has that feature).
Basically, you need this sort of routine:
For Each wb in Workbooks
For Each ws in wb.worksheets
ws.find(...) 'here's your find statement(s)
