Excel Macros

I have two questions that I think are probably related.
1) At some time in the past, VISIO installed a button on my toolbar, and loaded a macro called "Insert Visio Button.xls" onto my program. I have deleted that worksheet, and now Excel looks for it every time I launch Excel. I can't find anywhere in my options settings where this worksheet should be automatically launched.
2) I have another Excel File (that I have created) that Microsoft says has a macro. If I enable the macros, and then view the macro, none exist. Any ideas on what is causing this or how I can fix it?

1) Do you still have the button on your menu? If so, delete the button (right click on the menu bar, select customize, then left click and drag the icon off the menu bar).
2) Check to see if you have any macros in any of the worksheets or if you have a macro in "This Workbook". Double click on the sheets or on "This Workbook" to see.

1) Yes, I have already deleted the button
2) My Excel defaults to "ALL OPEN WORKBOOKS" when I hit Alt+F8, and I see no macros. When I select "THIS WORKBOOK", I still see no macros

Sorry Alan, should have been clearer for your second question. To check each sheet and "This Workbook", you need to be in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor. Access this by ALT+F11.
What is the message you receive from Excel when it is looking for the Visio file?

The message I receive when opening EXCEL is:
"Windows is searching for Insert Visio Button.xls. To locate the file yourself, click Browse."
After a few seconds, a second message pops up that says:
"The item 'Insert Visio Button.xls' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved. The nearest match, based on size, date, and type, is 'C:\Program Files\Visio\System\Custom\Insert Visio Button.xls'. Do you want this shortcut to point to this item?"
After I click 'NO', another message box pops up that says:
"'Insert Visio Button.xls' could not be found. Check the Spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct...."

It sounds like you are starting Excel via a shortcut. If that is the case, what is the target when you right click on the shortcut?

Yes, I am starting Excel from a shortcut (on my bottom menu bar right next to the Start button on the Left). When I right-click on the icon and select Properties, nothing shows in the Target box.
However, if I go to c:\program files\microsoft office\office to run Excel.exe, I get the same visio message.

How are you selecting c:\program files\microsoft office\office\excel.exe? Are you going through Explorer? If yes, and I don't mean to be insulting, is it an icon you are selecting? Does the icon have a little arrow in the bottom left? The reason I ask is that it appears (from the message you are receiving) you are using a shortcut to start Excel. I think that the shortcut also specifies the file name "Insert Visio Button.xls" to start up when Excel starts.
Am I making any sense??? Let me know.

I appreciate the "basic" questions also, as I will not be suprised to find out I am doing something stupid :)
However, in this case - when I launch from the desktop by clicking on the icon, I get the Visio message. It is the executable, not a shortcut

When you right click on the icon on your desktop, what is the target? (computers are fun aren't they?)

Loads of fun.....
When I right click and select Properties, there is not "Target" listed. Instead I have Type (Application) and Location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office).

Boy Alan, we are rapidly becoming drinking buddies!
The only thing I can think of is:
Do you have any other buttons on your menu that are assigned a macro from "Insert Visio Button.xls" Is this a possibility?
Do you have any other files loaded automatically with Excel that are referencing cells in this file?
Sorry I can't help any further. If the problem doesn't exist as above, I would suggest another post (I don't think anybody else will be following this one).

The message is coming from the fact that you had visio installed on that machine (with the office integration option) and now excel can not find the shortcut (internally) to the insert visio button.xls (the button you would hit to insert a visio drawing). I have the same issue. I know what caused it.. I changed visio versions.. but I cant seem to make office stop looking for it (side note, with office 97 this problem can be corrected with a reseting of the standard toolbar).
Hoping this helps shed some light into this issue.

Found it. Delete the insert visio button.xls.lnk file from your office\XLStart directory (my full path was c:\program files\microsoft office 2000\office\xlstart\insert visio button.xls.lnk). If you remove this link it will stop prompting you with the browse message.
