Excel 7.0 (also known as Excel 7) is more than 6 years old now, as it shipped concurrently with Microsoft's Windows 95. There's no significant problem with compatability with Excel 95 and Windows 98, but as long as you are asking, you really should consider purchasing and learning the latest version available, which is now Excel 2002. The reason for this is that there are new features with every release, some versions not as dramatic as other versions, but now you would have a version that is 4 versions old (Excel 95, 97, 2000, and 2002). In fact, there's very little difference between 7.0 and 5.0, which came out in early 1994, almost 8 years ago. The compatability problem you will have is opening files on Excel 95 that were created in later versions. You will need to keep asking the file creator to save the file as a 95 type, and that gets to be an inconvenience to both sides.

Consider spending the money for the most updated version.

Good luck.

Important

Only buy proper software not hookey gear as Del Boy in Olny Fools and Horses would say "it 'ant worth it" and this way you get a Licence and all the rest, we all know the storts dont we.

I aggre totally with Toms comments but add, Excel 97 is lowest to ready get into, as offers FULL spec, older run NON-VBA they use Moduels and its all different, If you must have E95 you can use E97+ and default save to E95 but formatting and so on can be lost as E95 not so advanced. I have used all Excel from V2 which is Excel 4 and its horses for cources, This board is really very good and some guys are fantastic and put it this way go all the way to help, i feel if you go under E97 then this board is limited to you as noyt all works, even the functions are reduced the lower the version number, I say newer the better but Excel 97 min spec, i use 97 every day and can do all i need.

Hope that helps.... lets keep it legal your feel better even if it cost a bit more..
