Adding Macro Button to Toolbar

Can someone tell me how to add a button to the toolbar for a macro and make it be there everytime Excel is loaded? thanks!

go to Tools->Customize. or right click on a toolbar (assuming your machine is not a Mac), and choose Customize. Go to the tab which allows you to drag a Macro Button to the toolbar, drag a button up there, assign the macro, then close and restart excel

I've Tried this however the button is not there when i restart excel! It seems to disappear or go off into never never land, if someone can tell me what i'm doing wrong it would be very appreciated. Thanks!
