What are 3-D references?

On Microsoft's page about exam objectives for the Core Excel test, it says, "Link worksheets & consolidate data using 3D References." I know how to do hyperlinks using sheet references, but I'm not sure what they are talking about here.

3D references are when your workbook refers to another workbook. The dimensions are the workbook, worksheet and cell.
