Using Pivot Tables and Dates

I have a large amount of data in a spreadsheet which has details of account no, amount, payment method and date. Each account may have several rows containing different amounts, payment methods and date.

Although using a pivot table I can extract the total amount an account has received and split this figure by payment method I would also like to use the date. I would like to be able to show the amount each account has received by which payment method during the last say 12 months.

I am not sure if there is another way to extract this data as I cannot get the pivot table to extract information for the dates I am interested in. Anybody any ideas ?
