Stupid question..If e.g. stands for "example given" , what does I.E. stands for coz i've always see

What IE is actually short for if anything is no doubt known by someone. IF you really want to know I would check out latin, it probably comes from there. However it is just another way of eg.

i.e. (from Latin "id est") means: that is (to say).

e.g. (again from Latin "exempli gratia") means: for example; for the sake of example.
