Replace '*' character NOT meaning wildcard

I know I've done this before but am having trouble now...

I want to delete a section of a formula (in 500+ rows) which includes the asterisk * character, but the Edit-Replace is treating the * as a wild card and deleting virtually the entire formula. Anyone?

To identify the asterick as non-wildcard, proceed it with a the tilde above the single quote key.

This is one tip I'm very glad to get! I've also had fits with removing asterisks.

Thanks,
