R&D in a footnote

This should be a no brainer, but it seems I'm all outta braincells.

I simply want to hardcode "R&D" (without the quotes) in a footnote but excel interprets the &D part to put in today's Date.

I got around this by naming the sheet R&D and using the sheetname, which is fine with a one-sheet file, but the file is multiple sheets.

Can anyone tell me how to hardcode this into the footnote?

See Tip in the Excel Help File:

"To include a single ampersand (&) within the text of a header or footer, use two ampersands. For example, to include "Subcontractors & Services" in a header, type Subcontractors && Services."

Cheers,

John
