password protection

I have Excel 2000, and I need to password protect a workbook. The instructions in the Help tell me to go under the Tools menu and select General Options. There is no selection, and under the General tab under Options, there is no Password to Open box.

I've tried using the Protect Workbook option under Tools, but this only prevents changes. I want to limit who can open and view the file through a password.

Try SaveAs and click on the Options button (this is Excel97 but I think it would be the same for 2000). This will give you the option to password-protect the file.
