opening excel through explorer or as an atachment.

I was wondering if anyone ever had trouble trying to open an excel file through windows explorer or as an atachment with outlook express?
2 of our computers now are having that problem. they will open excel but not the file. only a blank wookbook will open. however when we try to open through excel it will open fine. Also every time you try to open a file it will open a seperate verson of excel instead of just a wookbook inside excel.
Both of these computers are running office 2000
This is driving us crazy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
