Links being seen as plain text

Hi,
When I put links into my workbook instead of seeing the value in the cell I see the text defining the link. For example if Sheet.A1 has the value "Pig" when I place ='Sheet'!A1 in a cell I see that instead of the value (ie) "Pig". What is causing this and how can it be remedied? Thanks!

It sounds as if you have the "Formulas" option turned on. Go into Tools > Options > View and make sure that the "Formulas" box is not checked.

I looked into it and the view formulas box is not checked. Furthermore, when the cell is active I am given the real formula result. Any idea what could cause that?
