Basically, Excel is for numerically-orientated databases and the plethora of problems and required solutions inherant within these.
I'd suggest Excel may not be the platform with which to best test your students.
Maybe the fact that some of these numerically-orientated problems can be solved via mathematical logic which manifests itself in the form of Excel's particular syntaxes could fall within "Language Arts" but I suspect that to be a bit too much of a tenuous connection...
I'm open to be corrected, of course, but Excel basically follows the logic known as "boolean", this being the stepping stone between language and mathematics.
Have you tried some search engines for "boolean" ? Maybe "boolean +mathematics + language" ?
