How to remove a background "object" from a spreadsheet

I am working in a spreadsheet someone else put together. There is this annoying "PAGE 1" being displayed on the screen in such dark letters that I can barely read the numbers in the cells where it appears. I would like to know how to either get rid of this or make the shade lighter so that I can see the numbers on the spreadsheet easier. It does not print when I select the sheet to print out.
