File Locked For Edit

When I open a file on my hard drive,it says that the file is locked for editing by another user but I am the only one who has access to it and do not have it opened anywhere else. Other than opening it read-only and doing a file save as, is there any way to file the file so I don't get this message mysteriously?

Silly i know but you have checked read only is not set ?
If still playing up copy data and paste in new wordbood, save old doc@" xxx_old.xls just in case and new @xxx.xls
