file format

opened an excel 97 file yesterday via excel 97, updated and saved as usual. today when i try to open the file via excel 97 or 2000, i get the following message: cpd selections 4-01.xls: file format is not valid. tried to restore from a network backup tape and i get the same message on the earlier file version as well. any ideas?

To try and salvage the data you can:
open it in WordPad or try importing it into Access;
then copy and paste it into a new workbook.
