Excel97 Odd extension

Whilst working with Excel97, I received a Dr Watson and then the file I had suddenly became duplicated. Lets say the file was named fred.xls. Well, it became fred.xls:1 and fred.xls:2
Any ideas please?

Somehow you opened a 2nd "window" onto the same
worksheet. Click the close box of the ":2"
window.
