Excel not opeing

When I open excel 2000, and click on a cell, the mouse selects the entire range of cells. If I keep moving the mouse, the cells keep on getting selected. I am unable to write anything to the sheet.
What is the problem?

Sounds like a shift key is stuck. try hitting each of the shift keys a few times and see if it 'unsticks' them.
