Error message when opening Excel files

I have a couple of Excel files that always give me an error message saying that there is already a file with this name open and that you can't open two files with the same name, etc. This only happens with these particular files - other Excel files open just fine. it doesn't matter what method of file opening I use, I always get the same message. Any ideas on how to get rid of this error?

Try holding shift while opening the file. There might be code (?) that is doing this, and holding the shift key skips the code.
