Date Formatting

I am working with what I think is an old Lotus 123 spreadsheet that has been modified thru the years. My problem is that I have added a Date column, in which every time I enter a date such as 10/01/00, I get the #DIV/0! message, even though I have formatted the column to show dates in Month Year format? How can I get around this so that entering 10/01/00 results in Oct-00 showing in this column?

Meet one of the more puzzling features of Excel!
Under Tools/Options/Transition,
unselect the checkbox for Transition Formula Entry.
