Copying and Pasting Subtotals...?

Posted by Chris Rock on June 14, 2001 9:24 AM

I have 15 rows of data, and when I use subtotals, I like the fact that I can group the data to show only the subtotals.

What I'd like to do is copy just the data that is showing...but when I use the copy/paste functions, it grabs ALL the data, not just the subtotals and pastes it. The only way I've figured out how to stop this is to paste into Word as RTF format, and then copy and paste back out of Word into Excel as values. That seems to work fine, though I don't know how to write a macro to do this in one step. I'd like to find out how to do that.

However, if there is a way to do this in Excel without having to go to Word, I'd like to know what it is.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I meant to say that I have 15000 rows of data. Oops!

Highlight your collapsed list.
Hit control G, special, visable cells only.
Now control C to copy and finally control v to paste.

Also, consider using the consolidate option as opposed to subtotaling if you only want the summary.

Good luck.
