Converting CSV to Excel

When i try to convert a CSV file to Excel, Excel by default changes the numbers to numeric and dates to date format. I want excel to open all the valus as pure text and not apply any formatting on its own. How do i achieve this ?

Change the extension to .txt, open the document by using Excel's File Open... menu command, and perform the steps presented by the Text Import Wizard. Be sure and specify a column data format of "Text" at step 3 of 3.
