Cannot Empty the Clipboard

When copying and pasting in Excel 97 I frequently get an error
message that says "Cannot Empty the clipboard." Although, this
is not fatal it is extremely annoying. Is there any fix for this?

I am running Windows NT on a Pentium II machine.
