Unwanted Spaces

I have this hugh spreadsheet with over 2,000 names that I need to format. Basically what I'm trying to do is clean up the cells text. Intially the sheet's text control is in "shrink to fit" mode. I then format it to text control equals "wrap text". Once I do this, there appears an empty space after the last word for the whole column. For example, the cell contains two schools that an aplicant attended and after the last name of the school, there is a blank space. If I were to do a manual clean up, I would be able to delete that extra space and the cell would then "shrink" to size once it is formatted to the wrap text. I'm not sure if I'm making much sense here but I hope that you understand my dilema. Please advise soon as I am wrecking my brain all day trying to figure this issue out.
