Time functions

I would like to create a "time card" where time (ie. 8:00 AM in one column and 12:00 PM in another) will result in "4" hours in the third column. Any suggestions?

Excel stores time as a fraction of the day. To show it hours just subtract the two and multiply by 24
For example
=(B1-A1)*24
with 8 in A1 and 12 in B1.
Format as general if it looks odd.
