random sample

I have a list of 1000 names on a spreadsheet, and
I'm trying to Excel to randomize that list into one
of 500. I searched the help topic list, but it didn't
include instructions. Help please!

this may work if you are looking for a quick easy way. add a column next to your names. Put in the formula =RAND() to generate a random number. Highlight the column and select copy. Paste special the values over it. Finally sort by this column and the first 500 are your winner (losers?)
