POSTING EMAIL ADDRESSES TO EXCELL

Posted by MAC MAGINNIS on February 10, 2002 9:11 AM

I AM USING EXCELL TO SET UP A MEMBERSHIP ROSTER USING JUST TEXT ENTRIES. WHEN I TYPE IN AN EMAIL ADDRESS IT CHANGES COLOR TO BLUE AND THEN WHEN YOU HIGHLIGHT IT YOU GO TO OUTLOOK EXPRESS TO SEND AN EMAIL ..I REALIZE THIS IS BY DEFAULT BUT I DONT WANT TO USE THAT FEATURE AT THIS TIME. HOW CAN I CHANGE IT SO THE ENTRY WILL JUST BE IN BLACK TYPE. THANKS

One way...

is to put a quote before the address like:

'CMAGIN4375@AOL.COM

When you need it back as a clickable email address, use:

=HYPERLINK(A1)

where A1 houses a quoted out e-mail address.

Re: One way...

Hi Mac:
For removing hyperlink feature, method suggested by Aladin should work, but somehow it does not (in Excel 2000 anyway). So, here is what you do -- hightlight the cell(s) and EDIT|Clear|Formats ... this should do it.

Re: One way...

Yogi,

Quoting does work in Excel of Office 2000 on the Mac and that of Office 2000 on Windows.
