Inserting the Sqaure Root Symbol in Excel

Can anyone help me with inserting the Sqaure Root symbol in Excel? Specifically, I am trying to enter an equation, i.e. "the sqaure root of 5", and can't figure out if there is a way to do this?

=SQRT(A1), where A1 contains a positive number. (NT)

Hi Eric,
If I understand you correctly, you do not want to perform a square root, but rather just insert the square root symbol (looks like a check mark) into a cell or textbox for documentation purposes. This is actually quite easy. When you want to enter this character in your text, change the font to Symbol. Go to the windows charmap utility, and in the Symbol font you will find the square root symbol as Alt+0214, 5 rows down below the character "6". Select it, click Select and Copy, then go back to Excel and do a Paste.
If you are not familiar with the charmap utility, you should find it on the Windows Start menu Accessories toolbar, or as the charmap.exe file in the windows folder. I recommend adding charmap to your Office toolbar--it is a very useful utility.
