Formula in imported TXT files

Hello,

I try to use formulas in an imported spread sheet. The imported file is a TXT one. Instead of displaying the result of the formula in the cell it displays the formula itself.

Ther is neither a metter of cell formating nor "Ctrl+`" issue.

I am using Excel '97.

What is the solution? What should I do to see the formula result in the cell?

Maybe you should uncheck Formulas on View tab via Tools|Options or via Preferences if on Mac.

You say that it's not a matter of cell formatting,
but is it possible that the cell containing the
formula was formatted as Text at the time the
text file was imported and then subsequently
changed to some other format? If so, select
the cell(s) containing the formula and perform
a Replace substituting a equal sign (=) for
itself.
