conversion from time to decimal

I have a spreadsheet that calculates time. All of the cells are formatted for time. I need to convert the time to a decimal. Example:

8:06 (8 hours and six minutes)
I want to convert this to 8.1

How do I do this?

Multiply by 24. ="8:06"*24 produces 8.1 hours
