Preventing Data Entry In A Cell

I have cells in a workbook which contain formula results. (Example)C4 defined as A1+B2.The problem is that when other people use the file they overwrite the cell and the formula is lost. I have tried using data validation with the Custom option and entering the formula there but to no effect. I believe it is because the formulae entered there have to evaluate to true or false. I also tried using the protection feature but I only want to protect individual cells, not entire worksheets. What can I do to the cell prevent people from modifying cells after I have placed formulae in them? Any suggestions at all would be welcome.

Hi,

It's possible to just protect certain cells in your worksheet. Select the range you want to keep unprotected, click Format, Cells and deselect the Locked option. Any cells you want protected do the same but keep locked. You'll then have to protect your sheet as normal.

Dax.

Also, the Locked option is on the Protection tab of the format cells dialog.
