why is everytime i try to type the number 001 in excel
it always go back to 1..is there any way to type
001 than to format it to general..thanks

Use a custom number format of 000.

Keep in mind...
...that even if you format your cell as 000 Excel
will always store an integer without leading zeros
and display it according to the applied format.
If you need to include leading zeroes as part of
the value and won't use the value in arithmetic
operations (like an account number) then format
the receipient cell as Text.
