Formatting cells by criteria

How can I colour cells by matching a criteria ie if I type in "apple" how can I get it to automatically go green?
Does this require a macro? if so, any suggestions?

You could try conditional formatting....
Highlight the range of cell you're interested in, then :
format
conditional formatting
cell value is equal to "apple"
format
patterns
pick a nice shade of green
okay
okay
and your cell should be formatted to green on the condition that the cell value is equal to "apple"
is this what you had in mind ?
