Inserting rows gets error message and shuts down

I have a worksheet that has 2,800 rows in it. When I insert rows in the middle of it I keep getting "Excel.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being generated." Any ideas? And where would this error log be? Also when I press ctrl end it takes me to a blank cell in row 3200. I have tried deleting all the rows from the bottom up but it didn't change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the first part, it sounds like your having problems in excel itself. It shouldn't be doing this. Try reinstalling Excel (your files will be fine) and seeing if you're still getting the same error.

For the second part the farthest cell out that was last used, whether or not there's nothing in the cell, sets the size of the file. If you do as you said you have (deleting all rows and columns with no data in them) them go to the cell you know as the farthest used one (not what excel thinks it is), then save the file, it should reset that value making the file size smaller.
