circular reference message continues to appear whenever I load a particular workbook.

How do I make it go away?

Assumming you wish to keep them, go to Tools>Options|Calculation and uncheck the "Interation" box. Click the ? next the X and click "Interation" for detail.

sorry, that didn't work Dave.

Thanks Dave. I attempted to do as you suggested, but interation was not checked in the first place, and I have neither the ? or X. Apparently these features aren't available in excel97 (which I have).

I do not want to keep the circular refs. Actually I don't think I have any, just the error msg.

Jonathan

The "X" I'm refering to is the X that will close the Options dialog box, the ? is located to the left of this. If yu cannot see them then simply select Iteration and push Shift+F1.

To find out whether you have a Circular reference and which Cell(s) they are, Go to View>Toolbars>Circular Reference.
