turning off auto date

in excel when ever i type in a set of numbers in a cell (example: 9 - 14 ) then it replaces it with 14 september.

Format the cells in which you enter 9-14 like items as text.

chris, format your cell as text or you can enter it like this "9-14" or (9-14)
