Text coming over as formula

I am usin Excel to manipulate a text file. Lines that start with a + end up coming over as formulas. I want to write a macro where Excel looks at the first characters of each cell, and if it is a + sign, it keeps it as text instead of trying to make it a formula. Any suggestions? Here is an example of the line from the text file:
+- Searching> DSTA1011.TXT
#NAME? is the error I get.

Why don't you just record a macro while using
the Data | Text to Columns... menu command?
