Need to Multiply a dollar amount by a percentage as follows;
-$100,000.00 X 6.75% = $167,500.00
What is the Excel formula please?
Also, how should i type 6.75? Simply typing 6.75 and formatting the cell as percentage doesn't seem to work.
The numbers don't seem to come out right.
Thanks,
noir

Noir,
In A1 enter as is: 6.75%
In A2 enter: the amount of interest, e.g., 100,000.00
In B2 enter: =A2*A1+A2

In A1 put
100000
and format as Currency
in A2 put 0.0675
And format as percentage
in A3 put
=A1*(1+A2)

Better check your math...
Don't know what am i thinking... it's not IsBlank, it should work with IsEmpty... but if you imported them from a text editor maybe excel doesn't recognize the cell as "empty".

Better check your math...
$100,000.00 X 6.75% doesn't equal $167,500.00...
it equals $6,750.00. If you're trying to increase
by 6.75% it's not $167,500.00... it's $106,750.00.

Why use =SUM() with only 1 argument? It's
unnecessary!

Eddie,
Sorry but, that formula gave me the wrong total.

I had one student to produce
=SUM(E4-D4)
I wish the parser in Excel refused such "builds", or at least warned against them. Au contraire, BG's "Assistants" seem to promote such syntax. Alas.

Well, it doesn't produce erroneous results so there
isn't anything to warn about. I suppose it's up
to folks like us to increase the understanding of
arguments -- specifically, that they're separated
by commas rather than arithmetic operators.
