copying formulas without linking

I'm trying to copy a long, complex formula from one
file to another and when I try to paste it in the new
file, Excel wants to link it to the first file. I
don't want to link the files, I just want to copy the
formula exactly as it is in the first file. I've tried
"paste special" and can't find a way to make it work.
Surely I don't have to re-write the formula or delete
all the links after I paste it. Can someone please
help? Why is it doing this? I don't have this problem
with a simple "Sum" formula.

thanks!

Lisa

The formula might contain names ranges and such.

Select the cell of the formula & go to the formula
bar, then put a single quote before =-sign. You can copy that formula to the destination and edit it there.
