Data validation list from another workbook?

I know that a data validation list may be defined by a
name that point to a specific range within the same workbook or sheet. Is there anyway to do this also from another workbook?
Case is that a user, when activating a template file, should be given the option to select one person name from a data-validation-list, and then via VLOOKUP get the full address info from the "address.xls". The person names are first coulum in "address.xls".

cxorrect me if i'm wrong. I thought data validation lists had to be displayed in that one sheet.. not anywhere else even in the workbook!

If you define your list as a name (insert - name - define - list_name), you can call it from anywhere in the workbook.

In data - validation - list, enter the name you defined above in the source box (remember the =).

This does not work if the data is in another workbook!

OK, thanks for advising... However, as a work-around, it should then be possible to import another workbook as a worksheet when opening e.g. a template, define the list based on the import, use it, and eventually deleting the (temp) worksheet before closure - right?!
