counting checkbox values

I'm using check boxes in cells I4:I9 and I need cell I10 to display the number of boxes checked times 1.
Please someone explain how to read the values of the checkboxes.

Link each box to a cell in the range I4:I9 and put the following formula in cell I10 :-
=COUNTIF((A1:A5),"True")
