Custom Chart Question

Does anyone know of a way to combine a stacked bar
chart with a regular bar chart? For example, if
I wanted to show a planned number of units on one bar
then I wanted to show on another bar how much
of that bar was in queue, how much was Work in process,
and how much was complete? This would be in one chart.
Thanks for your help.

Dean,
I posted a similar question on May 9, but didn't get any answers. (I was trying to get multiple stacks in the same graph.)

The workaround I used (suggested by a co-worker) was to use a data set containing blank cells. For example, suppose you have 5 units WIP and 4 completed. Put your labels "Completed", "WIP", "Total Planned")in cells A1 to A3. Leave cells B1 and B2 blank and enter "9" in B3. Enter "4" in C1 and "5" in C2 while leaving C3 blank. This will give you two bars, one of which is stacked. Repeat this method for the other data in the series.

A drawback to this method is that Excel views the two stacks as separate points in the same series, so the bars will be equally spaced with the next two bars in the chart. You can improve the appearance of the chart by grouping the two bars using vertical gridlines. You might also have to mess with the axis labels.

Having said all that, I'm not sure why you need to use multiple bars, since the height of the stacked bar equals the total.
