I have a had a quick look around but i didn't find anything on this topic, so apologies if i have missed an obvious thread but i am looking to start working on access and need advice on what the best starting point is. i have got some books out of the local library but i am wondering if there are any sites or advice that may help gain some knowledge, skills and experience with this programme

Thanks in advance!

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
I would recommend the following things:

1. Picking a good "How To" intreoductory tutorial book on Access. When I first started, I picked up the Microsoft Access Step-by-Step series. There are probably other better ones, but it was a fine introduction.

2. Pick up a book on Relational Databases. Understanding Relational Databases and Rules of Normalization is key to designing databases.

3. See if any local colleges, schools, or professional training centers offer Access courses.

4. Check out the internet for site with some Access tutorials. Here is one site I see referenced a lot: http://www.datapigtechnologies.com/AccessMain.htm

5. Lastly, when you run into specific issues/questions, feel free to post the questions here in the Access forum!

Hope that gets you started!

If I may add to Joes list, you should think of a topic that you want to create a database on and if this is something you have knowledge of like a hobby then you have a good start point, also look at writting down your plan and create a diagram.

Look at finding out the naming rules for field names and object types.

tables normally use tbl
queries use qry
forms use frm
reports use rpt
macros either mcr or mmm
modules (programming) use mod or bas

Good luck and we are here to help when needed.
