Why am I prohibited from attaching a file?

Because everybody is.

We find people focus on detailing their particular problem better if they are forced to describe it and maybe post a small screen shot with

Well that is a good reason! What do I do if i need someone to take a look at a spreadsheet -- for advice on how to perform a calculation wo causing a circular reference....to merely describe it would be insufficient

Sorry, I edited my post and you may not have seen that before posting. Post a small screen shot (see links above) and/or post your formula and tell us which cell it is in and what you want it to do.

Your proposed question also sounds like it should be posed in a new thread in the 'Excel Questions' forum rather than 'About This Board' - you'll get more of the relevant people looking at your question.
