Unique Items in Pivot table

I have 27,500(or so) lines of data, including customer names. I am trying to use the Pivot Table to show me how many transactions for each customer. I get an error telling me "A field in my source data has more unique items than can be used with the Pivot Table feature".

Is there a better way I can get a count of how many unique customers I have in my data, without converting everything into MS Access Table?

Please help...

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Hi,

Use Data, Subtotals to get a subtotal of your data. You can specify the Count function to get a count of records for your data.

Post back if you can't get something to work.
