How to Match Company Names in Excel

Hi all,

I have unique company list in Access consisting of 49,000 data where I have info but not the contact details. In another file I have the contact names. Only one thing that is matching between these two files is Company Name. But the problem is in 49,000 table I have the full company Name (Like Zinfi Technologies,Inc) and in contact names table I have the company names but not in full (Like Zinfi Techno...).

In that how will I match the companies?

Sort by date Sort by votes
If you want to bring in the contact details, and if the fragment of company name that you have ALWAYS matches the start of company name in the other file, then you can do something like this...

Code: 
=vlookup(left(a1,12),.........)

where A1 contains "Zinfi Technology Company" and your lookup table contains the shortened name.
This will work as long as ...
1) The shortened name is always the first 12 characters
2) There aren't any mismatches, for example, trying to match "Zinfi Techno" with "The Zinfi Technology Company" or "Zinffi Technology" and so on.
3) There aren't multiple occurrences of the same company name in either list.
